CANON DIVERGENT.

This account is canon divergent as of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, a list of my divergences can be read below, it looks extensive but I've tried to keep it as simple as possible. If you have any divergences for your portrayal, please know that I will always adhere to it.

002, Have fun. Like I said, we're playing online barbies, the point is to have fun. As soon as it stops being fun, we have a problem.
003, Mutuals only. As stated, I will only interact and write with people that I follow, and people that follow me back. This is because I am very fickle and can only delve into deep dynamics with a few people due to real-life commitments and responsibilities, as well as other roleplay accounts.
004, Patience. I will always show my partner's patience, never feel that there is a time limit on when you can respond or reply to a thread or meme. This account is low-activity, so I ask for the same patience in return.
005, OC Friendly. I love OC's, please have information available on your blog for me to read!
006, Shipping. Open and multi-ship friendly. This means that all dynamics and relationships happen within a vacuum or within their own personal verses. 007, Smut: I'm comfortable writing smut and I enjoy writing it with partners who also enjoy writing it. 001. Bucky and Steve reunited shortly after Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Bucky, while still reclaiming much of his own memory and identity, chose to hunt down the remaining branches of Hydra and it is during an Avenger assault on a Hydra base that Bucky and Steve are reunited. Bucky would later agree to work alongside Steve and the Avengers to destroy what was left of Hydra and as such he knows and has worked alongside the Avengers for almost a year before Ultron’s creation.

He would be an unofficial member of the avengers. No one outside of the Avengers would be aware of his involvement with the destruction of Hydra’s remaining forces.

002. Bucky left the Avengers before the initial events of Age of Ultron
Bucky still struggled to recall the exact events during his time with Hydra and for the most part is largely unable to tell what has happened and what has been warped by time or PTSD. When he found himself dreaming of being responsible for the deaths of Howard and Maria Stark, Bucky chose to leave the team in order to live with his sister, Rebecca, and attempt to piece together the memory.

His efforts to recall his involvement however are interrupted when Rebecca has a heart attack and is hospitalized.

003. Bucky was still framed and arrested for the Vienna bombing.
Bucky is unable to attend the funeral of Peggy Carter and is rather in the company of his sister, Rebecca, at the time of the Vienna bombing. Due to the kill order placed on him, Bucky is once again forced to go on the run. His flight is interrupted by Steve, Sam and T’Challa and is still arrested and is still exposed to Zemo who triggers his compliance.

004. Bucky never lived in or around Wakanda and did not go back into cryo.
Upon losing his arm, Bucky experiences an intense and prolonged dissociative episode during the trip to Shuri’s lab. Bucky has little to no recollection of leaving the bunker, let alone being offered asylum by the King of Wakanda.

Bucky spends the majority of his time in Shuri’s lab until the episode eventually passes. He later works together with Shuri to remove the programming that Hydra implanted within his brain, rather than go into suspended animation like at the end of Captain America: Civil War, Bucky would remain conscious and have sessions in virtual in which he was able to piece together his past.

It was an extremely long and harrowing experience. During this time, Bucky did not step foot inside of Wakanda. Rather, T’Challa allowed Bucky to live within one of the War Dog safehouses that operated out of Cape Town, Africa.
When Bucky wasn’t in session, he was in Cape Town and when he eventually began to show signs of recovery from Hydra’s conditioning, he began taking down organized crime in the area where he was living.

005. Bucky worked with Steve, Sam and Natasha without a new cybernetic arm.
Once Hydra’s programming had been uprooted from Bucky’s mind and memory, he rejoined Steve, Sam and Natasha as a Secret Avenger, fighting alongside them and watching their backs. He eventually approaches Shuri about possibly designing a new prosthetic and works together with her and T’Challa to craft one that can be attached and detached at will. He received this new arm during Avengers: Infinity War.

EARTH 616.

001. Bucky had only one sibling, a younger sister Rebecca.
Unlike in the MCU where they state that Bucky had multiple siblings, for my Bucky, he only has one. His 616 younger sister, Rebecca Proctor. Bucky reunited with his sister and made contact with his nieces and nephews. Rebecca would die peacefully in her sleep shortly before the events of Age of Ultron.
002. Bucky's mother died during the birth of Rebecca.
Bucky's mother died when he was 8 shortly after she gave birth to his sister and before Bucky met and befriended Steve Rogers.
003. Bucky was extremely close with Sarah Rogers as he and Steve grew up together.
Sarah Rogers became a surrogate mother figure to Bucky growing up and helped his father raise Rebecca from infancy.
004. Bucky's father died during a training accident at Camp Lehigh.
George Barnes died when Bucky was 17, two years before Sarah Rogers would die of tuberculosis. Rebecca was moved into a girls Boarding School and Bucky dropped out of high school to work full time so that he could pay for Rebecca's board, school fees and his own living expenses.
005. Bucky was not a mother hen to Steve, he was equally as impulsive and combative.
After his mothers death, Bucky developed violent and aggressive tendencies, often picking fights with the express purpose of getting into fist-fights. Both he and Steve were openly combative and fairly impulsive well into their early adulthood.
006. During the war, Bucky was the one who was sent to do the dirty jobs.
Bucky was both a soldier and an assassin during the war. When Steve and the Howling Commandos were sent on mission, he was assigned targets that he was tasked to "take out". Steve and the Commandos were aware of this.

CURRENT LOCATION
Following the events of the Blip, Barnes has been issued an official but conditional pardon for the crimes he committed as the Hydra assassin, The Winter Soldier, as well as any crimes committed prior to falling victim to the alien Thanos. One of these conditions is that he must regularly visit with a military therapist, Dr. Raynor, once a week.

Despite his pardon, Barnes continues to self-isolate and distance himself from existing relationships, most notably with Sam Wilson until the announcement of a new Captain America compels him to confront Sam over the controversy of the US government giving Steve’s shield and legacy to a stranger.
Bucky is comfortable working alongside Sam against threats and is currently trying to find his own purpose in the world.

POWERS/ABILITIES.

SUPER-SOLDIER SERUM: Dr. Arnim Zola's Super-Soldier Serum triggered when Bucky fell from Hydra's Freight train. It metabolized and permanently enhanced all of his bodily functions to the peak of human efficiency. and is classified as an enhanced human.
↳↳ Peak Human Strength. Bucky's physical strength is enhanced to the very peak of human potential, making him consistently able to sustain lifts 800 lbs (363 kg), and bench press 1,100 pounds (500 kg) as a warm-up, though he is capable of pushing his body much further.
↳↳ Peak Human Speed. Bucky can move at speeds equal to that of the absolute finest human athlete, capable of maneuvering at speeds of at least 50 mph, allowing him to easily outrun any human. When moving at these speeds over short distances, his movements can even appear as a blur, making it difficult for a non-enhanced being to perceive is actions when he's moving at full speed.
↳↳ Peak Human Durability. Bucky's durability is amplified to the highest human potential, making him very durable. This is what allowed him to survive the fall from Hydra's Freight train as well as Hydra's experimentations, augmentations, and various sustained injuries and wounds throughout his time as the Winter Soldier.
↳↳ Peak Human Agility/Reflexes. Similar to his speed, Bucky's agility and therefore his reflexes are amplified to the highest human potential, capable of dodging gunfire from multiple shooters simultaneously.
↳↳ Peak Human Stamina. Bucky's body automatically eliminates the excessive build-up of fatigue-producing chemicals in his muscles; giving him exceptional endurance. He can also resist extreme temperatures.
↳↳ Peak Healing Recovery. Bucky's healing speed ad efficiency is enhanced peak ability, meaning that he heals faster than the average person, and that he ages extemely slowly. This also means that his metabolism gives him a high immunity to infections, diseases, and poisons. This includes alcohol and most drugs.
↳↳ Peak Human Mental Processing. Bucky's mental performance is greatly enhanced, allowing it to operate in the most advanced and rapid manner possible. He can process information quickly, giving him an accelerated learning aptitude. He possesses an eidetic/photographic memory and near perfect recall, this is what forced Hydra to perfect the Chair's memory wiping technology and is also why Bucky is able to piece together his past if given enough time and familiar stimuli.
↳↳ Peak Human Senses. Bucky's senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch are enhanced to the highest limits of human potential.

CYBERNETIC ENHANCED PHYSIOLOGY: Bucky is outfitted with a removable bionic prosthetic arm, crafted from Wakandan vibranium and designed by T'Challa and Shuri, the arm is capable of exceeding even Bucky's own enhanced abilities.
↳↳ Super-Human Strength. Bucky's prosthetic arm is capable of greater strength than even his enhanced abiities, it can destroy advanced, military grade technology and machinery with effortless ease and would even be capable of destroying a Cosmic Cube.
↳↳ Stabilization Sensors. Bucky cybernetic arm can detect the balance of objects through touch.
↳↳ Sensory Array. The arm houses different sensors which allow BUcky to map out his surroundings and identify targets, this would allow him to sense even concealed or camouflaged individuals. These sensors also allow him to pass through security such as metal detectors without setting them off, and can also shield other metallic objects from detection such as firearms and knives.
↳↳ Electrical Discharge. As a safety measure against cybernetic hacking and attempted sabotage, the arm can discharge an extreme electrical shock to prevent unwanted tampering.
↳↳ Cybernetic Defense. The arm is resistant to damage, as it is crafted from vibranium it is resistant to extreme temperatures, explosions, high-caliber rounds, and other brute force weapons.

SKILLS/WEAKNESSES.

MASTER MARTIAL ARTIST: Bucky is a dangerously skilled martial artist and an extremely formidable unarmed combatant, as well as a proficient armed fighter. Even prior to triggering Zola's Super-Soldier Serum, Bucky was a extremely talented boxer and acrobatic. He has the skills and the drive to defeated multiple master and extremely skilled combatants without much effort.
MASTER MARKSMAN: Bucky is an extremely accurate marksman, his proficiency as a sharpshooter and knife thrower is unmatched with near perfect accuracy and was the best sniper in his division during WW2.
EXPERT SHIELD FIGHTER: Bucky became rapidly proficient with the Captain America shield, seconded only by Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson.
MASTER OF STEALTH: Bucky can appear from place to place without being detected. He is extremely proficient at remaining under guise, concealing himself, and his location. As such he is a gifted scout, and master spy.
WEAPONS PROFICIENCY: Bucky is proficient at wielding many weapons including pistols, rifles, knives, grenades, etc.
MULTILINGUAL: Bucky is fluence in Romanian, English, Russian, German, Japanese, Chinese, and a little French. He has a basic grasp on American Sign Language, and Arabic.
EXPERT TACTICIAN: Bucky is a very skilled strategist, as a perfectionist he gathers all the relevant information he needs in order to achieve his mission, but he is also capable of improvisation and adapting to circumstances.
ADVANCED MILITARY OPERATOR: Bucky is skilled in all Armed force disciplines including intellect gathering, escape arts, assassination, demolition, survival tactics, hunting, swimming, mountaineering, interrogation, map making and reading, disguising, communication systems, explosions, computers, reading and making wood craft signs, and other secret code languages.
MASTER ASSASSIN: Bucky is an adept assassin and is considered one of the most lethal assassins in the world. Bucky has mastered and implemented several methods to silently eliminate sentries with bladed weapons, garrotes, or his bare hands. As a master at stealth and tracking, he knows how to conceal his whereabouts from even enhanced individuals, including masking his scent and has a habit of constantly studying his surroundings and depicting what he can and cannot do in whatever situation he is under.

ELECTROMAGNETIC PULSES: Bucky's bionic arm can be rendered useless by EMP's, advanced electrical technology, and can be forcefully removed by Wakandan specialists.
DISSOCIATIVE DISORDER: Bucky can still be triggered and enter a dissociative, depersonalized state of mind when under extreme mental distress.

ARC I, pre-the first avenger: verse tag. Orphaned at seventeen, Bucky’s younger sister Rebecca was moved into the city to live at the Boarding School for Eloquent Young Girls. In order to afford her board, school fees and his own living expenses, Bucky dropped out of high school and rented a small apartment so that he could be closer to his sister, then aged nine.

Bucky presents as a social creature, knowing the importance and usefulness of building repertoire with those around them and has been the lightweight boxing champion for two years in a row. He has a wide circle of close acquaintances and spends his free time at the library, sneaking into campus lectures at the New York University or going dancing at many of the clubs and bars in Harlem and Brooklyn.

Bucky is also seen visiting the Boarding School for Eloquent Young Girls to see his younger sister and often camps out in the downstairs lobby helping Rebecca with her studies or reading to her and some of Rebecca’s other friends.

ARC II, during the first avenger: verse tag. Enlisting into the US Army in 1941, Bucky was promoted to Sergeant while in camp and later assigned to the Infantry Regiment, the 107th. Despite Steve’s best efforts, Bucky was deployed along with his regiment without his best friend but worked closely with his men to help in the war effort. Bucky takes the safety and the lives of his men seriously, and has the confidence of his men because of his intelligence, strategic mind and willingness to go toe-to-toe with anyone and everything should the need arise.

Bucky earned the respect of his fellow soldiers and superiors when he led the assault on a Nazi compound that resulted in the capture of eighteen prisoners and no casualties on their side. He writes to his sister and to Steve every chance that he can get, and does what he can to try and bolster morale amongst his platoon but the stress of war weighs on him as it does all soldiers.

Bucky is later taken prisoner with half of his regiment by Hydra and is experimented on by Arnim Zola who is attempting to replicate the Super Soldier Serum. His experiments are forced to an end when Steve, now with the mantle of Captain America, rescues him and the other Allied Forces from the prison factory.

Bucky later joins Steve’s Commando team as their first scout and Sniper and together they and the USSR work together to dismantle Hydra.

ARC III, pre-the winter soldier: verse tag. The fall from Zola’s freight train triggered Zola’s serum and caused rapid healing of Bucky’s mortal injuries. He was found by Russian soldiers, barely alive and struggling to remain conscious – his wounds were tended to and he was imprisoned for almost a year. Bucky believed that negotiations for his release would begin once the war ended and so he spent the year biding his time and learning Russian by ear but the negotiations never came and he was eventually transported to another bunker where he found himself once more at the mercy of Arnim Zola.

Bucky spent the next four years suffering severe torture at the hands of his captors. Operated on against his will, conditioned, tormented, abused and indoctrinated. Despite all he suffered, Bucky continued to resist for eight and a half years until Zola revealed to him that Steve was dead. Bucky suffered a psychological break, the only thing that had kept him sane had been the belief that his closest friend had returned to Brooklyn and was living the life that he had always deserved, instead Zola had exposed him to the harsh truth. That Steve had perished saving New York and had died before the end of the war.
Bucky attempted to escape, managing to kill six of Zola’s men before he was put down. It was then that Zola attached the first prototype cybernetic arm and introduced Bucky to the Chair.

Zola wiped Bucky’s memory and crafted him into the Fist of Hydra. He lost all sense of his own identity and has no memory of his past.

He’s efficient, cold and calculative in his work as the Soldier and lacks any personal opinions or feelings. He has been stripped of all that makes him human and is a driving force behind Hydra’s plans for the future of mankind.

ARC IV, post-the winter soldier: verse tag. With memories of his past life slowly beginning to surface, Bucky abandons his Hydra handlers and disappears into the city. Reluctant to reunite with the man who claimed to be his friend, the Soldier instead lived on the streets. Using his skills to hide in plain sight and avoid detection from his enemies and those who wished to capture him.

He’s suffering from severe PTSD, depression and dissociative disorder, struggling to recall his past and finding that time blurred into single instances making him incredibly dangerous to those around him. While he is doing his best to control his impulses and reclaim his identity, it is extremely difficult.

Bucky can be found squatting in abandoned buildings or hiding amongst other homeless of the city. Most assume that Bucky is a veteran and he has attended a handful of PTSD meetings in the cities he’s passed through but he continues to isolate himself.

Bucky has recovered enough of his memories to identify and recall Timothy Dugan, a Howling Commando who he served with in the army, and his younger sister Rebecca, now eighty-six years old with children and grandchildren of her own.

ARC V, pre/during age of ultron: verse tag. After reuniting with Steve when Bucky was taking down a Hydra compound, Bucky began to work alongside the Avengers to destroy the last remnants of Hydra. While he insisted on working alone, Bucky did interact and occasionally partner with some of the members of the team besides Steve, like Clint Barton and Natasha Romanoff. As time progressed he became a more involved member of the team and began socializing more with the other members as well. It was a learning curb for the man after so much time spent working alone and being denied familiar connections but slowly he began to expand his social circle.

Bucky however triggered a flashback of the Stark murders, recalling how he killed Howard and Maria Stark during one of their sons' extravagant celebrations. The guilt he felt for having killed a man that he had once been close to during the war caused Bucky to take a step back from the Avengers, leaving the team and staying with his sister and her granddaughter who had moved in to help care for her.

Reluctant to confess the crime to Tony until he himself had come to terms with it, Bucky maintained a careful distance between himself and the team.

ARC VI, post-civil war: verse tag. With Steve and T'Challa’s help, Bucky was brought to the edge of Wakanda where Shuri had a smaller laboratory and together they discussed how they might remove Hydra’s programming from his mind. Given the time that Bucky had spent as Hydra’s prisoner and the extreme conditioning, torture and indoctrination that he had undergone they all knew that it would take time and Shuri was determined to begin with healing Bucky’s body first.

Shuri and her team of engineers and surgeons removed the ruined remains of Bucky’s cybernetic arm and during the process discovered and removed multiple augmentations and modifications that Hydra had done to Bucky’s physique and allowed Bucky’s body to and his serum to heal the majority of his injuries and wounds, some of which were decades old.

While Shuri had removed the trigger words, as well as Bucky’s conditioned responses to exposure to the Chair, there was no magic cure for psychological damage and mental illness. Bucky still experiences vivid hallucinations, time lapses, flashbacks and depression but Hydra no longer has any control over his mind.

Bucky left the lab shortly after and reunited with Steve, Sam and Natasha in their covert team of commandos.

( Bucky and the Secret Avengers do not live in Wakanda nor have they ever lived in Wakanda. Their meetings with King T'Challa and Princess Shuri always happened outside of Wakanda, Bucky’s recovery happened in the city of Cape Town in one of the War Dogs safe houses. Bucky has never stepped foot inside of Wakanda until the events of Infinity Wars. )

ARC VII, during infinity war: verse tag. Bucky has been working alongside Steve, Sam, and Natasha in disassembling major crime syndicates and global corruption bases around the globe. Together the team works from the shadows, hunted by every major agency in the world, they've established numerous safe houses and gathered relevant income and financial support in order to help victims of their enemies and have established various networks, and underground connections.

Bucky follows Steve, Sam, and Natasha when Wanda Maximoff and the Vision are attacked by Thanos' children and is soon thereafter outfitted with a new vibranium prosthetic, designed by both King T'challa and Princess Shuri.

Bucky is among the casualties of the Blip following the battle against Thanos' forces in Wakanda.

ARC VIII, post-end game: verse tag. Following the battle against Thanos, and the returning of the infinity stones to their rightful timelines, Bucky resigns himself to the US government, prepared to face the full weight of the law for the crimes he committed as the Winter Soldier, and as a fugitive from the law. What follows is a harrowing six month military trial in which Bucky is faced with the US Military Tribunal.

Bucky is eventually found not guilty for the crimes he committed as the Winter Soldier, and is further pardoned for all subsequent crimes committed during his time as a fugitive under the condition that he attend weekly sessions with a Military Psychologist, remain within the state of Washington DC for the next six months, not interact or engage with any known convicts or ex-convicts, and report to a probation officer every week.

ARC IX, during falcon & the winter soldier: verse tag. While Bucky is currently pardoned for crimes committed as the Winter Soldier, and as a fugitive from the law, he is expected to report to both his Military Probation Officer, and his Military Psychologist once a week. He is also not allowed to leave the state of Washington, and is not allowed to engage in any criminal activity, or fraternize with any known convicts or ex-convicts.

Bucky eventually makes contact with Sam Wilson following the public announcement of John Walker as the new Captain America, and works together with Sam, and the convicted felon Zemo, in order to bring down the resistance organization, the Flag Smashers.

ARC X, post-falcon & the winter soldier: verse tag. Bucky has reclaimed the moniker, the Winter Soldier, and is acting as a vigilante. Keeping his identity and involvement a secret, as he is unwilling to sign the Sokovian Accords and risk being taken advantage of by a leading agency. Bucky acts independently, focusing on individual crimes, criminal syndicates, and known terrorist cells.

Bucky remains in contact with Sam, and a handful of other allies associated with Steve and Natasha, but for the most part he acts alone.

THE 100 AU: full description. Originally hailing from Ice Nation, Jeims, known to friends as Buck or Bucki, was raised by his father and trained as a warrior. He showed a keen interest and affinity for the old world's technology and science, and when he wasn't training to become an Azgeda warrior and hunter, he was tinkering with old world machines and technology. He encountered a young man called Stev, who had visible mutations, during one of his many deep dives into an underground facility of the old world and the pair became nearly inseparable until Bucki was recruited into the Azgeda army, and expected to join in the hostilities against Trikru.
Stev, despite the cultural stigma of being an individual with visible mutations, followed and became an invaluable asset to Bucki and his team as their fisa and would later be proudly hailed Blokhefa, meaning shield-wielder, after he saved a young warrior by using his bone growths as a shield.

Bucki was later promoted to General after leading a ground assault against Trikur which resulted in the deaths of almost all of their healers and over fifty of their best warriors. Bucki and Stev would lead multiple incursions against Trikru until Bucki was captured by the Reapers during a night raid on their camp.

Bucki was taken to the Mountain where he endured the process of Project Cerberus for almost three years, in which Cage Wallace used Bucki's impressive resistance and strength of will to perfect the Red Serum. Over seven years passed before Bucki would finally escape the conditioning of Project Cerberus after the mountains fall at the hands of Skaikru.

THE WITCHER AU: full description. When James was eight years old, his mother fell pregnant with her second child but was cursed by a jealous witch. While his father was able to slay the witch for endangering the life of his wife and his unborn child, the curse took and James' mother suffered immensely throughout her pregnancy until a Witcher by the name of Vesemir passed through their home city. As Vesemir studied the curse placed upon James' mother, he discovered that the only way to save their child was to transfer the curse at the time of the birth, to the mother. James' parents agreed to the solution and during his sister's birth, Vesemir performed the ritual of transference, saving James' younger sister Rebekah, and damning his mother.

As James' father protected his newborn daughter from the monstrosity that had become his wife, Vesemir attempted to slay her. During the fight, James picked up Vesemir's sword and as Vesemir performed Aard, James impaled the creature through the heart. In the aftermath of the ritual, Vesemir promised to return in a week's time for payment and when he did, James' father presented him to Vesemir to train to become a Witcher himself.

Upon reaching Kaer Morhen, James met Grant, another prospect who suffered several ailments and illnesses and yet against all odds, persevered. The two boys chose new names for themselves, Bucky and Steve, and together they trained under the harsh conditions of a Witcher's training and survived the Trials, becoming mutated Witchers tasked with slaying monsters.

DRAGON AGE AU: full description. Born in Amaranthine, Bucky worked tirelessly to help support his family and a half-elven boy, Steve, brawling in an Amaranthine back alley. Together the two boys began to work together and became inseparable in school, backyard and playground. When Bucky's mother perished during childbirth, his father offered Steve and his mother a place in their home in return for helping to nurse Bucky's newborn younger sister. However, when Bucky was sixteen, his father was killed in a tragic accident while working for the Arl's militia and Bucky, Steve, and Steve's mother, Sarah, were evicted from their home while Bucky's sister was taken in by a noble family that had not been able to conceive a child of their own.

Eventually, Sarah too perished from sickness, and Bucky and Steve would volunteer for the Kings army which took them away from Amaranthine and to Denerim where they trained as warriors. Steve and Bucky were eighteen when they marched to the Korcari Wilds with King Cailan against the Darkspawn where they witnessed the fall of the King and Loghain's retreat.

Bucky and almost two hundred soldiers of the King's Army were taken captive and into the Deep Roads. Steve pursued the Darkspawn and with a handful of Elite soldiers and Knights, rescued Bucky and the other prisoners. Together they returned to the surface in time to stop a Darkspawn attack on a small village near Lothering and moved through the Southern Hills and the Hinterlands, defeating Darkspawn and amassing a formidable militia until they marched towards Denerim for the Landsmeet where they joined the Greywardens against the Darkspawn horde and the Archdemon.

Eventually, both Bucky and Steve were knighted, founding their own elite militia group called the Howling Commandos, due to their Mabari warhounds.

THE MAGICIANS AU: full description. As students of Brakebills, Bucky and Steve were afforded access to some of the most complex spells and incantations that the magical world had and combined what they learned in school with what they had taught themselves before they were invited to Brakebills. However, both Bucky and Steve were required to take several additional tests and trials to discover a secondary discipline as their first was discovered to be Battle Magic. Since Brakebills no longer allowed Battle Magic within their school curriculum, Steve's secondary discipline was Cold Manipulation, and Bucky's was Meta-composition.
While they had different dorms, the two often bunked out in each other's dorm rooms on a regular basis and returned to New York city, Brooklyn as often as possible through portal traveling in order to keep an eye on Bucky's younger sister, Rebecca.

During their studies at Brakebills, Bucky, Steve, and a group of second year students disappeared when a mass cooperative spell went wrong and transported them all into another world where they fought in a magical world war. Bucky was held prisoner and brainwashed, he lost an arm and was turned into an assassin before he was finally rescued by Steve and a handful of his classmates. They eventually returned to their own world, and back to Brakebills through the Neitherlands.

Bucky spent the remainder of his third year piecing together his memory while he worked with a transfer student called Shuri, in designing a new prosthetic arm that combined technology and magic.
